Giuseppe Luigi Mezzetta and his son Daniel founded G.L. Mezzetta, Inc. in 1935. Now the fourth generation continues the tradition, providing quality foods at a fair price and taking care of our customers.
In 1913 Giuseppe Luigi Mezzetta immigrated to America from Italy to start a new life. Over the next twenty years he worked various jobs to support his family. With an eye and talent for finding the rare and delicious Mediterranean food products and a desire to share his culinary heritage, Giuseppe and son Daniel started their own business in 1935. They began by selling imported specialty foods to local delis and restaurants in San Francisco. As their business grew, they were able to open a packing plant in San Francisco's North Beach district. Year by year the company grew.
Daniel's son Ron Mezzetta became General Manager in 1973. In 1980, he successfully introduced Mezzetta food products to grocery stores nationwide. Under his leadership the company expanded their offerings into new markets across the country. In 1993, Mezzetta acquired the line of Kona Coast Hawaiian Sauces and Marinades. The growing company needed more space, and had relocated to Sonoma, California in 1980. By the 1990's it was clear that an even larger, state-of-the-art production facility would be needed to satisfy the demand for their products. In 1995, a new modern facility in Napa Valley was completed, housing production and the corporate offices. The facility is located within close proximity to California's richest agricultural regions, allowing Mezzetta to pick and pack many of its products within 24 hours, capturing all the quality and freshness.
Mezzetta is currently directed by the family's fourth generation, Jeff Mezzetta. Although leadership has changed, the heritage and enduring mission remains the same. Quality, service, and convenience—at a fair and reasonable price are the principles on which Mezzetta was founded and continue to guide the company today.
